ANNOUNCEMENT: It’s LICE Season!

Head Lice: What Parents Need to Know

Head lice are a common part of childhood, and we want to provide you with helpful information for prevention and treatment.

Preventing Head Lice

  • Teach children not to share hats, combs, brushes, scarves, or hair accessories.
  • Regularly check your child's hair, especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck, for lice or nits (eggs). A fine-toothed comb is recommended.
  • Keep long hair tied back in ponytails or braids.

What to Do If Your Child Has Lice

  • Remain calm; lice are treatable.
  • Consult your doctor or pharmacist for appropriate treatment and follow their instructions carefully.
  • Use a fine-toothed nit comb to remove lice and nits after treatment.
  • Wash recently worn clothing, bedding, and hats in hot water and dry them on high heat.
  • Notify the school nurse to help prevent further spread.

If you have questions, please contact us at 703-914-7300.

Sincerely With Warmest Regards,

Keesha Jackson-Muir, Principal
