HMES Students with the West Potomac Area Orchestra
Thirteen Hollin Meadows student musicians performed in a concert on Thursday night as a part of the West Potomac Area Orchestra. The orchestra was comprised of string players from the West Potomac Pyramid elementary schools. The students had the opportunity to meet their future middle school director and fellow musicians.
Our group of musicians from Hollin Meadows rehearsed after school five times with our strings teacher, Ms. Herrera. They also met with her for extra practice to learn some challenging pieces.
All of their hard work paid off when they performed on stage at Sandburg Middle School last night. We are so proud of them!
Young Scholars Field Trip
Our Young Scholars took a fantastic field trip to Washington, D.C today. They visited the Navy Yard to see the United States Navy Band perform at the Sail Loft. The Sail Loft is the rehearsal and performance space for the band. The trip was lead by our AAP teacher, Mrs. Johnson. Mrs. Johnson's husband is a Senior Chief Musician with the Concert and Ceremonial Band, so the students had a special opportunity to meet him and learn more about the Navy Band.
