Louder: Uncovering one of music’s tragic mysteries
Plus: The Jazz Gallery, 11 new songs, Bob Mould and more
Louder

Every now and then over the past two decades or so, someone would bring up Q Lazzarus to me. Her haunted new wave track “Goodbye Horses” appeared in “The Silence of the Lambs,” but then she seemingly vanished. Some knew the tale of her discovery — she drove a cab, and played the director Jonathan Demme her music. Almost nobody knew the story of her disappearance. Incredibly, she met the woman who would direct a new documentary about her the same way she encountered Demme. “Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus” opens next month; its soundtrack — effectively the first full-length Q Lazzarus release — is out now. Rich Juzwiak has the story behind them.

Lindsay Zoladz brought us what I hope is the first in a series of Amplifier playlists: a rundown of songs by artists who are frequent crossword puzzle clues. (Eno, Ono, Ari, etc). As the venue the Jazz Gallery celebrates its 30th year, Stephanie Jones profiled its longtime artistic director, Rio Sakairi. And Bob Mould told Brian Raftery why he loves “Only Murders in the Building,” New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Anne Lamott.
