Behind the Story

We have a new staff member to introduce to you! Haleluya Hadero joined our team last month as our new and first-ever Black church editor, part of Christianity Today’s Big Tent initiative.

Haleluya (pronounced "hallelujah") is in the running with editor Bonnie Kristian (pronounced "Christian") as our most aptly named CT colleague. Haleluya is a more common name in Ethiopia, where her parents are from, and she said her mom was so happy to have a girl after two sons, "so she named me Haleluya."

Haleluya previously worked as a reporter for the Associated Press. This week, she wrote for us about Kuyper’s case for tariffs and a pastor’s apology for his remarks blaming police deaths on disobedience.

She said her goal at CT is to pursue stories "about the Black church and Black evangelicals, reporting not just on but also for these communities" and to show "how Black Christians are navigating conversations around faith, race, politics, along with technology, business, culture, and family." You can share story ideas and tips at hhadero@christianitytoday.com.

Even amid scandals, cultural shifts, and declining institutional trust, we at Christianity Today recognize the beauty of Christ’s church. In this issue, you’ll read of the various biblical metaphors for the church, and of the faithfulness of Japanese pastors. You’ll hear how one British podcaster is rethinking apologetics, and Collin Hansen’s hope for evangelical institutions two years after Tim Keller’s death. You’ll be reminded of the power of the Resurrection, and how the church is both more fragile and much stronger than we think from editor in chief Russell Moore. This Lent and Easter season, may you take great courage in Jesus’ words in Matthew 16:18—"I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it."
