From the Principal’s Pen

Dear Laurel Hill Families,

We hope the spring break was full of rest and excitement that will give us the BOUNCE needed to finish the school year strong! We have many upcoming events that are our typical activities happening at the end of the school year. So, please stay tuned to our upcoming newsletters to come for all the details for these events.

Below are pictures from the 4th grade field trip to the Kennedy Center. They had an amazing time. We love being able to provide these real-world learning experiences with our students!

As we get closer to the last day of school, we begin considering class placement for the 2025-2026 school year. We understand that many families are starting to think about what next year might look like for their students. Parents and caregivers have the best overall knowledge of their student and her/his unique traits. The class placement process is approached very carefully and thoroughly at Laurel Hill ES, and we consider the academic and social needs of each student. In order to provide the best environment for your child, we seek input from both staff and families. With that in mind, we will send out a a questionnaire in next week's issue for your input.

Lastly, please save the date for our STEAM NIGHT to be held Thursday, May 8 from 6-8 pm. Join us for a fun-filled evening celebrating the creativity of artists and the innovation of scientists! Explore student artwork in the gym and experience hands-on science and engineering activities in the cafeteria. Try out robotics, play chess, build bridges, navigate marble runs, make music, and fly airplanes! Discover how Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) work together to solve real-world problems. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to inspire your students and see their talents in action!

Have an amazing weekend!

Sincerely,

Janice Dalton, Principal

Social and Emotional Learning Screener: Parent Reports

Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener during the month of March, providing information on their SEL skills such as achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.

Individual student SEL Screener results are available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent via postal mail.

For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the SEL Screener Results Family Guide or reach out to our school staff with any questions.

Attendance Reminders

If your child will be absent or late to school, there are 3 different ways to notify the school. Call (703) 551-5353 and leave a message 24/7 on the Attendance line, email LaurelHillElem.Attendance@fcps.edu or Login to Parent VUE. Additionally, we do not dismiss students after 3:30pm, as it disrupts our end of day schedule.
