The Good News: The Center Lanes Are Open!
Asphalt work in the on the base and mid-layers of the center lanes of Columbia Pike between South Courthouse Road and South Garfield Street progressed more quickly than expected, and crews were able to open these lanes to traffic.
Next: Asphalt Work in Eastbound Right Lane
Crews have shifted operations to the eastbound right hand lane and closed it off to vehicle traffic. Access to side streets and some driveways are still open. Sidewalks are also still open for now, but barricades may be present to protect utilities.
Intersections and driveways may experience short closures (up to 24 hours) in a future phase of the project for repaving.
Work on the eastbound outer lane is expected to last through mid-summer 2025.
Looking Ahead: Surface Layer Asphalt
Once all base and intermediate layers are complete, the surface layer and final lane striping will occur, likely in fall/early winter 2025.
See the project page.
