Pete Hegseth is trying to show Trump he's a fighter amid Pentagon chaos

President Donald Trump recently told Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth he didn't approve of his texting information about airstrikes in Yemen to a Signal group that included family members, even describing what he did as childish. However, the call ended with Trump telling him to keep fighting.

In an effort to show Trump he's a fighter, Hegseth has been focusing more on public and television appearances where he can speak directly to the president. But behind closed doors, he has grown increasingly "insecure" and "erratic," berating staff and telling them he can't allow himself to be fired, according to two officials familiar with the situation.
