The weekend is here but so is the rain. It's a washout today, which is good news for our ongoing drought. We're also following other top headlines including Pope Francis' funeral, detained Tufts student Rumeysa Ozturk, and the Celtics playoff series. |

It's a washout today with solid rainfall amounts for many |
The much-advertised rain is upon us. While the weekend isn’t entirely washed out, today is. We’ll see steady rain through mid-afternoon before it tapers to spotty showers or mist late day. Rainfall amounts will be solid – many will see nearly an inch of water. Good news for the ongoing drought/dry spell (just a drag that it’s coming on a weekend day). |

| As DOJ moves to restore visas, lawmakers fight for detained Tufts student |
After the Trump administration‘s surprise announcement that it was restoring the legal status of international students whose visas were revoked, lawmakers continued to call for a Tufts graduate student Rumeysa Ozturk to be released from a Louisiana detention facility. Some students’ visas have been reinstated as of Friday, with one immigration attorney telling NBC10 Boston about half his clients had seen the changes take effect. But little explanation has come since an attorney for the Department of Justice revealed the pivot at a hearing in California earlier in the day, creating an air of uncertainty around Ozturk and others facing deportation. “While we wait to learn more about the impact of this action and how many visas will be restored, one thing is clear: any student unlawfully detained, including my Somerville constituent Rümeysa Öztürk, must be immediately released,” Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Massachusetts, said in a statement. “We cannot allow these attacks on our democracy to continue, and we must keep working to protect our Constitution, our students, and our immigrant neighbors.” |

Two people aboard a fishing vessel suffered life-threatening injuries Friday off the Massachusetts coast. The U.S. Coast Guard said it responded to a distress call at 3:55 p.m. reporting two injured crew members of the vessel, named “25 TO LIFE,” about 25 nautical miles east of Nahant. The call reported that a snapped rope hit both of them — one had a contusion and possible broken ribs, and the other was intermittently unresponsive with a suspected broken neck. |

Two people were detained in Winthrop, Massachusetts, on Friday morning, in an incident that was caught on camera and left questions for the community amid talk of a second surge of federal immigration activity in the Boston area. Scout Grifoni, who lives near where she saw the detentions, said she was driving home when she saw agents wearing DEA and Homeland Security vests pull a work truck over. “It feels really close to home, and it feels honestly surreal, strange,” she said, noting the incident left her shaken.

Celtics-Magic recap: Nightmare third quarter costs C's in Game 3 |
The Orlando Magic defeated the Boston Celtics 95-93 in Friday night’s Game 3 for their first win of the teams’ first-round NBA playoff series. An 11-point third quarter doomed the C’s. Boston made a valiant comeback effort late in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the team’s 19 turnovers and uncharacteristic 3-point struggles (9-27). Jayson Tatum recorded 36 points in his return from his wrist injury. Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero delivered 32 and 29 points for Orlando, respectively.
