TOP OF THE AGENDA | Dozen killed in new Gaza offensive, say Palestinians |
| | Indirect talks on a ceasefire and hostage release deal are continuing between Israel and Hamas in Qatar. Credit: Reuters | Palestinians report that the Israeli military launched a large-scale ground, air, and sea assault in the north of Gaza early on Friday, with troops advancing on the town of Beit Lahia. More than 50 people have been killed, according to the Hamas-run civil defence agency. The Israeli military is yet to comment. According to local residents, the assault began with smoke bomb barrages followed by intense artillery shelling from nearby Israeli positions. Rushdi Abualouf describes the operation as the largest ground assault on northern Gaza since Israel resumed its offensive in early March. However, correspondent Yolande Knell notes this does not yet look like Israel’s threatened major military offensive. |

| BEYOND THE HEADLINES | Questions over beauty influencer's killing |
| | | The 23-year-old was shot dead while livestreaming from her salon in the wealthy Zapopan area of Guadalajara. Credit: Reuters | Mexican authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of beauty influencer Valeria Márquez as a femicide - a crime motivated by the fact the victim was a woman. But the crime took place in Jalisco, the state where the feared Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) emerged, leading to speculation that the cartel may somehow be involved. |
