May 16, 2025

Greetings, Team Langston Hughes:

What an incredible evening we had on Thursday, May 15th!  Over 125 of our 8th graders were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)!  I couldn’t be prouder of these soon-to-be high school freshmen; they’re truly embracing the values of hard work, dedication, and excellence.

We have just 16 school days left before we close the chapter on the 2024–2025 academic year!  As we head into the final stretch, please take a moment to review the following important reminders to ensure a strong finish to the year.

  • All medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school, June 11th. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
  • Our final Orchestra Concert is Thursday, May 22, 2025 at South Lakes High School at 7 p.m.  This is a change; make note.
  • Last day for after-school activities and busses is Thursday, May 29, 2025.
  • 8th-Grade Dance/Party – Friday, May 30th This event is for LHMS 8th graders only and promises to be a fun celebration of their middle school journey!
  • 7th-Grade End-of-Year Awards and Honors (by invitation – coming soon) – Tuesday, June 3rd at 9 a.m.
  • 8th-Grade Moving-On Ceremony – Wednesday, June 4th at 7 p.m. at SLHS
  • Laptop Collection – June 5th and 6th
  • Our final Panther Party is Tuesday, June 10th – FIELD DAY!  Panther Parties, as students know, are for those making the right decisions – getting to class on time and no discipline referrals.
  • LAST DAY OF SCHOOL:   Wednesday, June 11th – Early Release Day:  11:15 a.m.
  • Check out the Summer VIP Camps here.
  • ATTENTION ALL RISING 7th GRADERS:  If you have a rising 7th grader, mark your calendar! Panther Preview will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, or Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Students only need to attend one session.  Click here for more details and to register.

Thank you, as always, for your partnership and support. Let’s finish the year strong!

Social Emotional Learning

During this week’s SEL Second Step lesson, your student reflected on how their self-concept has changed over time. Family Conversation Starter: Tell your child about the way you saw yourself in middle school and how it’s different from the way you see yourself now. Ask them to describe how their self-concept has changed over time.
