Greetings Laurel Ridge Families,
As the final stretch of the school year unfolds, a vibrant energy fills our hallways. We've witnessed incredible growth, learning, and fun throughout the year, and it's truly inspiring to see all that our students have accomplished. Speaking of accomplishments, we are so incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication our students demonstrated during the recent standardized testing. We have several more weeks of assessments and know that students will finish strong!
As we gear up for exciting end-of-year activities and celebrations, I want to gently underscore the vital importance of consistent attendance during these remaining weeks. Every day of learning is crucial, building upon the knowledge and skills gained throughout the year and setting a strong foundation for future success. We want all our students to fully participate in these final learning experiences and create lasting memories with their classmates.
To help you stay informed about all the exciting events planned, please take a few moments to carefully review the calendar updates included in this newsletter, as well as the individual classroom newsletters from your child's teacher. These will contain specific details about special events and important dates. We hope that you are able to join in on some of the fun!
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to a fantastic finish to the school year!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Megan Counts Laurel Ridge Principal

Principals' Coffee
Please save the date for two opportunities to meet with the Laurel Ridge administration and Dr. Michelle Cottrell-Williams, Educational Specialist for Equity and Cultural Responsiveness. We will share the work we are engaging in with students and staff at Laurel Ridge around racial slurs and hate speech. We continue to work to educate our students and staff about the significant harm this kind of language inflicts on our school community and we value your partnership in this endeavor. This is an opportunity to answer your questions about how to talk about these topics with your children. There will be an in-person and a virtual opportunity to engage in these conversations.
- In-Person, Thursday, May 22nd, 8:45 – 9:45am, in the Laurel Ridge Library. Students may go to the cafeteria for supervision before school begins at 9:00 am.
- Virtual, Thursday, May 22nd, 6:00 – 7:00pm. Please complete this form to receive the virtual link.
3-Hour Early Release Monday 5/19
REMINDER: Monday, May19th, is a 3-hour early release. You should have received a confirmation email with your child’s designated dismissal plan.

End of Year Medicine Pickup
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after dismissal on the last day of school will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
If your student is enrolled in an FCPS sponsored summer program, the existing medication authorization forms may be used for those programs, but it is parent/guardian responsibility to pick up the paperwork/medication and transport to the summer site.
If you have any questions over the summer, please don’t hesitate to contact our school nurse, Gretchen O’Donnell, at godonnell@fcps.edu.

We are so excited to have your student be a part of such a great leadership opportunity. Please complete by 5/23.
