Message from Mr. Greata
The big question is: Which class had the fewest tardies during May? Before we reveal the winner, we want to recognize a major success—over 1,510 students had one or zero tardies throughout the month. Last week, each of these students received a snack as a small celebration of their commitment. It was a great reminder that, even as we continue to work on improving punctuality, the vast majority of our students are doing the right thing every day.
So, who won the class competition? Congratulations to the Freshman Class! They had the fewest total tardies in May. Our future is bright—and on time!
A huge thank you to our amazing PTSO for donating gift cards for a special raffle among students with low tardies. Your support helped energize this initiative and will continue to support our work around attendance and punctuality in the year ahead.
The PTSO is still seeking board members for the 2025–26 school year. Open roles include: Communications Director, Membership Chair, All-Night Grad Party Coordinator, and Legacy Brick Coordinator.
If you've ever considered joining this incredible team that supports so many aspects of school life, I want to encourage you to take the next step and get some more information, or simply jump in with both feet. For more information, please reach out to Sara Mastro or Nicole Spindler, contact info below in the Woodson Weekly.
As I shared last week, our Standards of Learning (SOL) testing scores have begun to roll in, and I want to share these outstanding results:
-
Math SOL Pass Rate: 95.5%
-
Reading SOL Pass Rate: 95.4%
-
Science SOL Pass Rate: 90.0%
These remarkable outcomes are the result of our students’ dedication, our families’ support, and the unwavering commitment of our teachers and staff. When we work together, we truly are greater than the sum of our parts.
Please join me in congratulating Juliana Gurrola, who won the Cappies Award for Comic Actress in a Female Role for her performance in Lear by William Shakespeare. We are so proud of her incredible achievement!
There will be no school on Tuesday, June 10, as we celebrate graduation beginning at 9:30 a.m. at EagleBank arena. However, students who need to return their school laptops may do so at the library between 8:00–11:00 a.m. and 1:00–3:00 p.m. The final day of school for underclassmen is Wednesday, June 11, with dismissal scheduled for 10:10 a.m. and buses departing shortly after at 10:20 a.m. This is our final weekly update before our seniors graduate, and I want to take a moment to thank the Class of 2025 for their incredible contributions to our school. We are so proud of all you’ve accomplished, and we look forward to seeing how you will change the world.
Congratulations!
Kevin Greata Principal

Counselor Corner
As we celebrate the Class of 2025 and wish them well on their future endeavors, we hosted Senior Awards. Seniors earned almost 3 million dollars in scholarship money and were recognized by faculty and community members as outstanding scholars, leaders, and contributing citizens. After graduation, counselors will work hard to submit final transcripts by June 13.
Before we wrap up another amazing year, we are busy working to ensure that seniors have a seamless post-secondary transition and that we support our rising seniors to make the most of the time they have before senior year begins! They should be familiarizing themselves with the Senior Padlet for suggestions on what they can do over the summer to prepare for senior year.
Taking an AP math class next year? You can find optional summer assignments here.
Registration for Self-Directed Econ & Finance closes TODAY. Students in need of credit recovery due to failing a core course may register for free. Please let your school counselor know once you register for a summer class.
We encourage all families to look at the CGW Student Services Padlet over the summer. Bear in mind that school counselors do not work over the summer, so if you receive an auto-reply this summer, we will respond when we return in August. It’s a pleasure to serve our community, and we wish all families a happy & safe summer!
Changes to Athletic Physical Requirements
Legislation introduced in the Virginia General Assembly and recently signed into law will result in two significant changes to the athletic pre-participation examination (physical) requirements for FCPS student-athletes:
Beginning July 1, 2025, athletic physicals will be considered valid for a period of 14 months from the date the form is signed by the medical provider completing the exam. This is the date on page 3 of the VHSL Athletic Participation/Parent Consent/Physical Examination Form (revised January 2021).
Beginning May 1, 2025, FCPS student-athletes are EXPECTED to have athletic physicals completed on the new VHSL Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Evaluation Form (revised April 2025).
