Campbell's Corner

Greetings Key Families,

As I said before, our goal here at Key is to make these last few days memorable and exciting for our students, and this week did not disappoint! We started the week celebrating some of our Key MS alumni who graduated from Lewis HS this week as they joined for the Lewis Senior Legacy Walk. It was wonderful seeing these students and hearing about their plans for the future. The Lewis HS graduation was Tuesday morning, and as I sat in the audience and celebrated the 78 Honors graduates, the students joining the military and attending competitive universities and colleges, and inspiring speeches and performances, I can assure you, the future looks very bright. Today, our rising 9th graders headed to Lewis for a tour and orientation to join the ranks of these inspiring Lancers. We also had plenty of fun this week, with our 7th grade soccer tournament and pep rally, our 8th grade dance and celebration, and our end of year awards ceremonies, where we recognized the individual achievements of some of our most outstanding students.

And the fun does not stop here! Next week, the celebrations and activities continue with our 8th grade soccer tournament and pep rally Monday, Yearbook Day on Tuesday, and our field day and annual staff vs. student volleyball game on Wednesday. Thank you for doing your part in ensuring your students attend school every day so they can participate in all of these fantastic opportunities with their friends.

Some reminders for next week:

  • Students should not bring backpacks or string bags to school next week. They may bring a purse and a lunchbox. If students bring backpacks or string bags, they will be stored in the main office for the day, as students will not have access to their lockers.
  • Laptop collection is happening today and tomorrow. Please make sure your student bring in their laptop and charger!
  • Wednesday’s Field Day activities will be outside (weather permitting). Please make sure your student has a bottle of water so they can stay hydrated while they are outside!
  • Wednesday, June 11 is an early release day. Dismissal is at 12:15.

Finally, to all our families celebrating Eid al-Adha today, the Key community wishes you a blessed and happy Eid. Since today is recognized as a religious observance day by FCPS, students may be excused from school. If your child will be absent due to observance of Eid al-Adha please contact the school to report their absence. Reporting can be made by calling the attendance line at 703-313-3939, through ParentVUE, or by email at Keymiddle.attendance@fcps.edu. Eid Mubarak!

Sincerely,

Drew Campbell
