The Red Sox’ high-profile, big-spending winter received a midsummer postscript Sunday.
Ace Garrett Crochet, third baseman Alex Bregman, and closer Aroldis Chapman — each acquired over the offseason — were selected as All-Stars in their first year with the team.
“The credit starts with the players. They’ve shown that they’re All-Star-caliber players before they got there,” chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said. “One thing we can all be proud of is the fact that Garrett was an All-Star last year, but for Alex and Aroldis, it’s been a few years. Any role that the organization had in helping them regain that All-Star form is something we should be proud of.”
