At a grand ceremonial dinner at Windsor Castle last night, King Charles and President Macron toasted the partnership between Britain and France and emphasised its vital importance. In front of 160 guests, including Sir Mick Jagger and Sir Elton John, the King called for a deeper alliance between the two countries to combat terrorism, organised crime and "irregular migration" across the Channel. Earlier Macron had addressed Parliament, urging an "open world", with the UK and France less dependent on the US and China. After the public pageantry of the first day of his state visit, Macron will meet PM Keir Starmer at Downing Street today to discuss issues such as stopping illegal migration.
