The preliminary report on the Air India AI-171 crash by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has led to more questions than answers. The 15-page
report, which does not directly attribute as to what led to the crash, does highlight that fuel control switches in the cockpit were a major factor for the crash.
But the most intriguing factor is the AAIB report mentioning a December 2018 alert issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which had raised the issue of the potential disengagement of the fuel control switch locking feature in several Boeing aircraft models, including 787.
