The Library of Congress holds one of the largest collections of globes in the world. Globes present many difficulties when considering aspects of storage and housing, they are an unusual shape, they have moveable or detachable pieces, can be very fragile, and staff and researchers may need to view the entire circumference of the globe. Preservation Specialist James Thurn explains how the Library of Congress houses these globes in an innovative way that makes the globes easier to view and access and creates secure, protective housing.

Law Library: News & Events: Join us this Thursday, July 17 For "How to Handle AI? – Italian National Regulation in the Context of European Law," at 10 AM EDT

Join foreign law specialist Dante Figueroa and guest presenter Roberto D’Orazio this Thursday, July 17, at 10:00 AM EDT, as they examine the regulations regarding Artificial Intelligence by the Italian National Regulation.

In this entry, legal experts will analyze the EU’s AI regulatory framework, from a legal and ethical perspective, to understand the challenges posed by AI innovations to the traditional human-centered environment. Particular attention will be given to the recent European Court of Justice’s decision in the “Schufa case.” On April 23, 2024, the Italian Council of Ministers approved a draft of a legislative bill dedicated to AI and on March 20, 2025, a legislative bill was introduced into the Italian Senate concerning AI. Yet, no enacted legislation on AI currently exists in Italy. Thus, the webinar will also ponder the current and future implications of both EU and tentative domestic legislation on AI for Italy.
