What's the story? You might have seen there's a lot of concern about the impact in Australia of Donald Trump slapping massive tariffs on prescription drugs. But in our story today, we're hearing that is not the real problem facing patients.
So what is? According to the peak industry body, it's wait times for medicines to be listed on our PBS. The story includes the statistic that there's a median lag of nearly two years for a drug to be available after approval.
'People will die waiting':
That's the upshot — a price rise on medicines you can't access is a secondary problem to the fact you can't access them. A review into the listing process last year was hailed as "visionary" by the health minister, but as yet there's been no official government response.
Speaking of tariffs: Donald Trump announced additional tariffs against India overnight as payback for India importing oil from Russia.
And speaking of Russia:
Vladimir Putin met with Mr Trump's envoy overnight. That's led to a suggestion from Ukraine that Russia is "now more inclined to a ceasefire".
