Wake up and smell the layers.
That’s not exactly what Carina Chaz, founder of DedCool, does each morning—but her morning ritual is just as intentional. Carina told The Newsette all about her A.M. routine, how she handles getting off track, and why her life—and fragrances—are better with layers.
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
I’m usually up early—no alarm needed. The first thing I do is open the windows to let the light in, then I take 20 minutes with my legs up while I soak in red light, drink my protein, and head out for a walk. It’s quiet, grounding, and helps me start the day with clarity before diving into anything digital.
Would you say that you have a morning ritual?
I’m definitely a ritual person. My mornings are my time to reset. Morning walks are my non-negotiable, and I’ll usually follow that with a sauna session and an ice bath (on my work-from-home days)—it sounds intense, but it works wonders for my energy and mood. It’s my version of wellness, and it really sets the tone for the day.
Do you have a trick to reset when your morning doesn’t go according to plan?
If my morning gets off track, I’ll pause whatever I’m doing and take a walk, even if it’s just around the block. Getting outside—even for five minutes—completely shifts my mindset. It’s my physical and emotional reset button.
Is there one product, tool, or habit you swear by to make you feel good every day?
Xtra Milk. It’s the scent that lives on me, in my clothes, my sheets, my space—everywhere. It makes me feel like myself.
What is your relationship with wellness right now?
I’m not trend-driven—I grew up around holistic wellness, so it’s more of a lifestyle than a phase. That said, I love trying new things that make me feel good, and I’ve found a rhythm that works for me. Wellness for me is less about extremes and more about consistency and connection to myself.
What wellness practice makes the biggest difference in your day?
Movement and scent. Starting my day with a walk and layering on my favorite DedCool fragrances throughout the day completely changes my mood. Scent is so emotional—it grounds me, energizes me, and makes even the mundane feel beautiful.
If your current chapter had a title, what would it be?
Layered, Not Linear. I’ve been reflecting on how growth, both personal and professional, isn’t a straight line. Like scent, life is about layers. Some soft, some bold, but together they create something uniquely yours.
