Treaty commissioners to come to Far West: Three independent commissioners — former Koori Mail chief executive Naomi Moran, former Victorian LGBTIQ+ communities commissioner Todd Fernando, and ex-senator Aden Ridgeway (all pictured left to right)— are travelling to the Far West to hear the thoughts of local First Nations communities on a treaty. The state government has committed $5 million to carry out a year-long consultation process. What the discussions will look like has been discussed here.
The meetings will be held in Broken Hill, Wilcannia and Menindee next week.

Animal abuser fights charges: A Broken Hill man sentenced to jail for animal cruelty charges
is appealing his sentence in the district court. Jet Jai Johnson, 20, was sentenced to 14 months imprisonment last week for five separate counts of animal cruelty. Johnson and his lawyer appeared in the local Magistrates Court on Friday via AVL asking for Johnson to be released on bail, "pending an appeal in the district court". His lawyer applied for bail so his client could "steel himself for the appeal". The police prosecutor argued that since Johnson is already in custody, he should already be prepared.
