Tom Brady statue to be unveiled before Patriots' exhibition opener today |
Tom Brady left his imprint all over the New England Patriots‘ record books during his stellar two-decade run with the team. Now, he is set to become the first player in franchise history to be honored with a statue. During a star-studded Patriots Hall of Fame induction last June, at which Brady’s No. 12 was also retired by the team, Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced a 12-foot bronze likeness of the quarterback was being commissioned from a local sculptor “to perpetuate the legendary legacy of the great Tom Brady.” |

‘It's that serious': Boston city councilors call for a rat czar again |
It appears the rat problem in Greater Boston has reached a breaking point for the city council, which has decided to push forward three separate ordinances to deal with this worsening issue. The actions include introducing rat-resistant trash bins, creating same-day trash put-out and pickup, and creating a pest control office, meaning the appointment of a rat czar — someone who would develop specific response plans for rat-heavy neighborhoods like Allston, and educate residents on pest prevention, including how to properly dispose of trash. Councilors Ed Flynn and Erin Murphy are behind the rat czar ordinance. Flynn brought it up last year, as well, but it didn’t pass. There seems to be more support this time around. |

| Bright blue skies are back, and we have a weekend warm-up in store |
Now that the smoke is out of the picture, we can focus on the temperatures and sunshine. The latter won’t see much fluctuation through the middle of next week, but the former undergoes a big shift by late weekend. Highs today and tomorrow are nearly flatlined — 70s at the water’s edge, low and mid 80s elsewhere. By Sunday, a shift in the wind direction means the mid and upper 80s will come all the way to the coast. |

U.S. green card change raises deportation risk for applicants married to citizens |
Immigrants in the U.S. trying to obtain legal residency now face a greater risk of deportation under a new policy change by the Department of Homeland Security that went into effect on August 1. The shift impacts those in the process of applying for green cards, even when they are married to U.S. citizens. Christina Toledo filed a petition to legalize her Guatemalan husband, Nexan Aroldo Asencio, after she said he successfully cleared the initial steps toward a green card by having an I-130 approved. |
