Rock-N-Recycle Returns Sept. 13

Come to the Arlington County Trades Center on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., to get a behind-the-scenes look at the Solid Waste Bureau and explore the world of recycling, trash-to-energy and other key environmental services. We’ll have dozens of hands-on learning stations, take-home art, close-up looks at the trucks and machinery that make solid waste services possible, and more! Arlington Adds 10 New On-Street Food Scraps Bins

New on-street food scraps collection bins were added at 10 locations with a high concentration of multifamily buildings on Aug. 6, including Courthouse-Clarendon, Colonial Village, Columbia Pike and Pentagon City-Crystal City. This brings the total to 24 locations for the on-street composting pilot program. See the full list of locations.

The pilot program was recently recognized by the Virginia Association of Counties (VACO) with a 2025 Achievement Award, which recognizes excellence in local government programs. The pilot has diverted more than 132,000 pounds of food waste from landfills or incineration since being launched in July 2024.

Residential Street Sweeping Continues Sept. 8

Street sweeping trucks will make passes around residential streets in September 2025. You can find the full 2025-2026 residential street sweeping schedule here. Emails will be sent one week in advance with the weekly schedule and tips on how to prepare for street sweeping in your neighborhood.
