Welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Big To-Do: Short Cuts, our midweek round-up of what’s going on around Boston, as selected by Boston Globe critics and writers.

Thursday

  • Austin Butler brings action and a bit of baseball together in the new flick “Caught Stealing,” opening in theaters.

  • See how rock legends met in the production “When Elvis Met the Beatles,” based on a true story and presented by Ogunquit Playhouse, beginning Thursday.

Friday

  • The Berkshire Opera Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington.

  • Head to Blue Ocean Music Hall in Salisbury for an evening with country-folk legend Steve Earle.

  • The 15th annual Boston Jazz Festival takes over South Boston Maritime Park Friday and Saturday with a two-day showcase.

  • Campfire. Festival returns Labor Day weekend with dozens of performances at Passim, Friday through Monday.

  • “Cat Fancy: A Feline Film Feast” brings cat-themed cinema to the Brattle, beginning Friday.

Saturday

  • “Good News Gus Show” hits Boston Common, bringing a free, all-ages puppet performance to UnCommon Corner.

  • The city celebrates Roxbury’s New Edition with its own day and street dedication, plus a block party, in honor of the group’s more than four decade legacy.

  • Somerville’s the Rockwell hosts “Men In Comedy: A Tattoo Show and Tell,” a night of laughs featuring the all-femme-presenting comedy collective.




Tuesday

  • “Beautiful Things” crooner Benson Boone heats up Boston again with a stop at TD Garden.

Ongoing

  • The Cape Ann Museum’s “Down to the Sea” photography exhibit continues in Gloucester through Sept. 28.

  • The exhibition “Paul G. Ryan’s 1960s” runs at the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum through Oct. 31.

Last Chance

  • The Dream Role Players troupe wraps up its performances of “Macbeth” Saturday and Sunday at Cambridge’s Longfellow Park.
