Cooler today, tracking rain Friday & then smooth sailing through holiday weekend

We’re getting closer and closer to Labor Day Weekend, and if you have any plans, most of the holiday is looking good. But there’s one thing standing in the way of a near-perfect weekend. That’s the threat for rain on Friday.

We’ll get to that in a moment, though. Let’s enjoy this Thursday first.

Injuries from training contributed to Mass. State Police recruit's death, attorney says

A Massachusetts State Police trooper who died after participating in training exercises at the Massachusetts State Police Academy last September had fatal complications from “blunt impact injuries,” according to the family’s attorney.

Enrique Delgado-Garcia was hospitalized and later died after participating in a boxing training exercise at the academy in New Braintree last September. His death sparked an independent investigation after Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. recused his office due to Delgado-Garcia’s previous employment there as a victim witness advocate.

Mike Wilcox, an attorney representing Delgado-Garcia’s family, said a death certificate should be filed with the Worcester City Clerk soon, and that the cause of death will be “complications of intracranial hemorrhages due to blunt impact injuries to the head in the setting of physical training exercises.”

The overhaul of White Stadium is taking shape in Boston’s Franklin Park.
