Looks like we might get a bit of rain over the next two days, which both area lakes and gardens desperately need. First up, a love of diving has helped create and sustain local history at the Great Lakes Museum. As well, MPP Ted Hsu, as Ontario’s Liberal Critic for Agriculture and Rural Affairs, is cautioning a Mississauga company about major environmental impacts to locals and First Nations as it looks to revive a dormant landfill near Dresden.
Also, leading into the long weekend, we've got our Weekend5 list of things to do in the Kingston area, including; the Verona Lion's Club Garlic Festival, the 11th Annual Limestone City Car Classic, the start of the Cataraqui Conservation's 60th Anniversary Hike Challenge, Book and Beans at the Kingston Frontenac Public Library and the CISA Kingston Open Bass Tournament and Street Expo. Golden years: Great Lakes Museum celebrates 50 years of preserving Kingston's marine history
What started as a day of scuba diving in Lake Ontario has resulted in 50 years of history at the Great Lakes Museum.
Barbara Carson first started diving when she was 21 years old, but what she didn’t know then was that she would one day be one of the founding members of the museum itself. It all began when an association of local scuba diving clubs, groups and individuals was formed in the winter of 1967-68. Throughout their dives, members would find and collect artifacts from shipwrecks. “It was always interesting to see something for the first time on the lake bottom. It was always fun to be out in the water,” Carson, now 91, said. According to Carson, the group wanted to do something to protect and showcase their treasures. |

Carney supports Ukraine, embraces Europe
On Aug. 26, just days after Ukraine celebrated Independence Day, United States President Donald Trump once again amplified Russian disinformation by erroneously blaming Ukraine for starting the war with Russia.
In sharp contrast to Trump’s disdain for democracy, Prime Minister Mark Carney has reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to supporting democratic Ukraine in its valiant fight for survival. Moreover, Carney has made it clear that now is the time for his government to reinforce and expand ties with Europe, thereby weakening Trump’s grip on Canada. |
Showers and a chance of showers over the next two days, leading into a sunny weekend. Temperatures are forecasted to hit a high of 23. Below is your forecast for Kingston:
