Good afternoon. It’s Thursday, August 28.

In today's newsletter:

  • The Trump administration said it’s moving to rescind the Roadless Area Conservation Rule, drawing a wave of opposition from critics who said it opens 15 million acres to potential development in Alaska alone.

  • The owner and manager of the Chelsea Inn in Anchorage's Spenard neighborhood pleaded not guilty to a federal charge of maintaining a drug-involved premises.

  • Gov. Mike Dunleavy formalized a partnership between Alaska and the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council that he called a “pilot project” meant to expedite permitting of resource development in the state.

The weather might be less than ideal, but the Alaska State Fair is still going strong for its final weekend. From the annual big cabbage weigh-off and monster trucks to a cosplay contest, check out some of the highlights here.

Anchorage weather

Anchorage remains under a high wind warning today, and it's overcast with a high near 65 degrees. There's a slight chance of rain today that will increase overnight and into Friday. We could see partly sunny skies on Saturday amid an otherwise rainy week.
