The White House will tap Jim O’Neill, a deputy to Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., to serve as acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to an administration official.

The news comes after the Trump administration fired Director Susan Monarez when she refused to resign under pressure.
