Early Voting for the 11th Congressional District
Friday and Saturday, Hours Vary
Vote early this weekend for the 11th Congressional District Special Election. Eleven voting sites will be open. Voters may also request an absentee ballot by Friday, Aug. 29.

Campfire Fridays (8 - 9 p.m.)
Join us for an evening campfire at Lake Accotink Park in Springfield. Explore the wonders of our natural world through walks, interactive activities and animal presentations. This week we'll discuss mammals. End the evening with s’mores. Registration is $10.

Drop in Citizenship Test Prep (11 a.m. - noon)
Drop in for citizenship test preparation at the George Mason Regional Library in Annandale. Volunteers will be available to help prepare you for the civics portion of the U.S. Naturalization Test.
LEGO Club (2:30 - 3:30 p.m.)
Unleash your creativity at the City of Fairfax Regional Library. Build LEGO masterpieces to display in the library or simply experiment with different designs. LEGOs will be provided.
Nature Kayaking (5 - 7 p.m.)
Paddle with a naturalist to learn about the flora and fauna that call Burke Lake Park home. Discover what’s growing along the lake’s edge, who likes to wade in the water and what might be swimming beneath you. Registration is $43.

Annual Begonia Show and Sale (9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)
See a dazzling display of color and shapes at this show sponsored by the Potomac branch of the American Begonia Society. The sale offers a wide variety of begonias, including tropical and subtropical species.

Springfield Bridge Walk (9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.)
Walk across the Veterans Bridge from Springfield Plaza to American Legion Post 176 to commemorate the renewal of the United States Army’s Community Covenant. The short walk ends with a community celebration with refreshments and entertainment.
Plant Clinics (10 a.m. - 1 p.m.)
Drop in for horticultural tips, information, techniques and advice from master gardeners at our City of Fairfax Regional, Lorton and Kings Park libraries.
Sheep to Shawl: Tying Up Loose Ends ( 2 - 5 p.m.)
Find out where your clothes come from at Pohick Regional Library's Sheep to Shawl series. Join us for the final in-branch event and meet Martha Polkey of Chesapeake Fibershed, showcase your handmade creations in a community show-and-tell, and participate in a fiber and tool swap.
Pop-Up Program: Paper Bag Puppets (3 - 4 p.m.)
We're opening up our supply cupboards at the Dolley Madison Library in McLean. Use our craft materials to create your own paper bag puppet.
Chinese Culture Club: The Roof Ridge Beasts of the Forbidden City (4:30 - 5:30 p.m.)
Explore Chinese history, art, music and culture at the Dolley Madison Library in McLean. This month we are learning about The Roof Ridge Beasts of the Forbidden City. All activities will be in English and Chinese Mandarin.

VA250 Mobile Museum at Gunston Hall (9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.)
The Virginia 250th commission’s “museum on wheels” comes to George Mason’s Gunston Hall in Mason Neck. This exhibit, “Out of Many, One”, is an interactive and immersive experience that brings key stories of Virginia’s rich history to your neighborhood.

Campfire Skills (10 - 11 a.m.)
Join us at Burke Lake Park to learn how to build a campfire. Practice starting a fire without matches and stay for a demonstration. Registration is $10.
One-on-One Technology Help (10:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
Get your technology questions answered at the City of Fairfax Regional Library. Volunteers can help with basic troubleshooting, such as setting up email accounts, creating a Word document, searching the internet, accessing photos, installing apps and using your devices.
The Origin of Manners (1 p.m.)
Courtesy and manners have defined cultures through the ages. Learn how manners have changed from medieval times to the Victorian era to today at Green Spring Gardens in Alexandria. Registration is $42 for the tea and lecture, and $18 for the lecture only.
