Keppel erosion concerns: Livingstone Shire Council says it will hire consultants to develop a business case and design options to fix erosion problems on Great Keppel Island. Putney and Fishermans beaches have experienced significant erosion in the past decade and large sandbags which have been installed as a temporary fix are nearly at end-of-life. Council says it's continuing to lobby the state government for funding to find a solution.

Woman allegedly escapes hospital: Police are continuing the search for a missing 26-year-old woman who allegedly escaped from Gladstone Hospital while in police custody. Marion Kay had been seeking medical attention at the Gladstone Hospital but police say she escaped about 6pm on Tuesday. They hold concerns for her wellbeing as the 26-year-old needs supervision and medical treatment. She's described as about 162 centimetres tall with dark red hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing grey track pants and a black shirt, and was handcuffed. Police have urged people with information to come forward, but urge them not to approach her.
Gladstone fire: A bushfire burned closed to homes at Glen Eden in Gladstone this week. A watch and act warning was issued on Tuesday afternoon and some residents evacuated. While cooler conditions and an overnight shower of rain on Tuesday night helped extinguish the blaze, firefighters have been monitoring the area and are asking residents across the region to ensure they have a bushfire plan in place. Warmer weather could increase the fire risk around the Capricornia at the weekend and into next week.
Smoke warning: A smoke warning is in place for parts of the region from a fire burning near Emu Park Road. Rockhampton, The Caves, Mount Archer, Mount Chalmers and surrounding areas may be affected by smoke from the blaze into the weekend. Residents are being urged to close windows and doors where possible and drive to the conditions.
