Happy Bisexual Awareness Week!
This annual event (September 16-23) focuses on bisexual people and their experiences, which are often overlooked or erased from conversations about the LGBTQ+ community. It is a time to celebrate and honor the bisexual community and to create a world where bisexuals can live openly and proudly. Since bisexuals are at increased risk of intimate partner violence, Bisexual Awareness Week is also a chance to increase access to resources and support. Learn more about this observance.

How You Can Reduce Your Risk of Falling
According to the National Institute on Aging, one in four older adults aged 65 or older falls every year. Falls can be caused by a simple accident, like losing your footing, but there are other factors that increase the risk of falling. These include health conditions, medications, and even poor lighting. After a fall, some older adults develop a fear of falling and begin limiting their activity. However, decreasing physical activity actually increases the risk of falls. The good news is that many falls are preventable. Learn strategies to prevent falls in the September issue of the Golden Gazette.

Unscripted: Conversations about Sexual and Domestic Violence — Hollywood and Interpersonal Violence
When Hollywood attempts to portray intimate partner violence or sexual assault, they often get it wrong. Violence, verbal abuse, stalking, and isolation are romanticized, or producers appear oblivious to the message they’re sending to society. But on occasion Tinseltown gets it right. On this episode, host Kendra Lee sits down with ADAPT counselor Irvin Hernandez and domestic and sexual violence counselor Lisa Groat, both with Domestic and Sexual Violence Services, to talk about the ways Hollywood addresses interpersonal violence—the good, bad, and ugly.
