FCPS Volunteer Requirements

Recent updates to our volunteer process focus on one primary goal: keeping students safe.

These updates — such as checks against the sex offender registry and, in some cases, criminal background checks — are safety measures that will help us maintain a secure and supportive learning environment for every student in our care.

We encourage all our parents and community members interested in supporting our students by volunteering at school to visit Volunteer FCPS, click “Learn More,” and then “Sign Up.” After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application.

Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check.

We understand these changes may seem disruptive, especially for long-time volunteers. Our intent is to ensure that our students feel safe and supported with each and every person they encounter at school.

As a reminder, all volunteers — and visitors to a school — are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.

Middle School Jazz Band

The Middle School Jazz Band is an afterschool band activity that meets afterschool on Wednesdays from November through April. Jazz Band Auditions for this school year’s jazz band will take place during RAISE on October 15, October 17, October 22, and October 24, as well as afterschool on Wednesday, October 22 and Friday, October 24. Jazz band presents an awesome opportunity to play traditional jazz styles, rock, latin, and pop music with friends. Jazz band is an AUDITIONED group, open to band students who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drum set, vibes, guitar, piano, and bass players (upright or electric), as well as non-band students who play guitar, piano, and bass. There may be exceptions to this instrumentation list based on the auditions and instrumentation needs.

Audition materials can be found in the band room, Room 402. Please stop by to sign up or email Mrs. Hitz!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are thrilled to announce that the Robinson Secondary School Library will be hosting a Book Fair, in partnership with Bookworm Central! This exciting event will be an opportunity for our students to explore a world of literature and foster their love for reading.

When: October 6 to Oct 14, 2025
Where: Library

Our Book Fair will feature a wide range of books suitable for all age groups and interests. From the latest middle school and young adult fiction to timeless classics, there's something for every young reader. This is a fantastic chance for your child to find new books that they will cherish and enjoy.

We’re offering the eWallet feature, a safe and convenient digital payment option for onsite purchases. Set up your child's eWallet through our Book Fair homepage:

https://www.bookwormbmaps.com/eWallet/

Please mark your calendars and support our school's reading initiatives. Remember, every purchase from the Book Fair helps us earn rewards and resources for our school.

We look forward to seeing you there!
