Run for Rocky 2025: Keep Going, Keep Growing!

We are almost a week out from Run for Rocky 2025! Please see below for details and important dates. A huge thanks to everyone working behind the scenes to make this year's event a success, thanks to all Mantua families for your support and volunteer time, and a special thanks to our local sponsors for their generous support!

We are still looking for sponsors to donate to the awesome raffle prizes we have for the top student fundraisers! For every $50 in donations, the student’s name goes in the Large Prize raffle for a chance to win one of our great prizes. We are also giving all students a chance to win one prize, regardless of how much money they raise. Every student, teacher and staff member will also receive a Run for Rocky T-shirt.

Important Dates & Times

• October 10 – 31: 3-week fundraising period
• October 20 – 24: Spirit Week! 
  • Monday, October 20 – No school
  • Tuesday, October 21 – School Spirit Day (wear Mantua swag or red)
  • Wednesday, October 22 – Wacky Wednesday (crazy hat/hair/clothing)
  • Thursday, October 23 – Pajama Day
  • Friday, October 24 – Run for Rocky (rain date: Monday, October 27)

Run for Rocky Schedule (October 24) - students come out to run laps near the baseball field:

• Grades 5: 9:45 – 10:45 AM
• PreK (AM): 10:15 – 10:45 AM
• Grade 6: 10:50 – 11:50 AM
• Grade 4: 12:40 – 1:40 PM
• PreK (PM): 1:00 – 1:30 PM
• Grades 1 & 2: 1:50 – 2:50 PM
• Grades K & 3: 2:55 – 3:55 PM

October 31 is the last day to collect money. Donations can be made at https://www.memberplanet.com/campaign/mantuaelementaryschoolpta/runforrocky2025.

Incentives & Prizes: For every $50 in donations, the student’s name goes in the Large Prize raffle for a chance to win one of our great prizes. We are also giving all students a chance to win one prize, regardless of how much money they raise. Every student, teacher and staff member will also receive a Run for Rocky T-shirt. Other amazing incentives and prizes include:

• Daily Top Class awards from Tuesday, October 21 – Friday, October 24. Each day the class that has raised the most money will get a prize chosen by the teacher!
• Fun Raffle Prizes supported by local sponsors. These will be raffled off after the fundraising period ends on October 31.
• A special Teachers-Only Raffle. For every $200 that a classroom raises, the classroom teacher will get his/her name in the teacher raffle for one of two $150 gift cards from Amazon, to be used for classroom materials.
• School-Wide Surprises! School administration will hold a school-wide surprise if the school raises 50% of the $35,000 goal by Oct. 20th. If the school raises 100% by Oct. 31, they will have another surprise for the students!

Also, volunteers on October 24 will be considered Level 1 and will need to have completed the Volunteer FCPS forms online.

Listed below are some key dates and important announcements for the upcoming season.

Key Upcoming Dates:

• Registration closes Oct 12
• Player evaluations will be held on two (2) separate dates on Oct 21-22. More specific dates and times to follow.
• Teams announced through TeamSideline app on or about Nov 2.
• First week of practice begins Nov 5.
• Referee Training Nov 16 and Nov 30. 
• First week of games begin Dec 12-13 weekend.
• Playoffs begin Feb 28.

Turnpike Basketball Travel Tryouts

The Turnpike Basketball Club offers opportunities for enthusiastic and talented players to participate in youth travel basketball teams that play across Fairfax County. These teams have traditionally been populated by Mantua students who also play Mantua Basketball, and led by Mantua coaches, and we are looking to continue that tradition this season!

Mantua Mini Made Market

Do you have a crafty kid? Would they like to sell their creations? Sign them up for the Mantua Mini Made Market!

This annual kids craft market is happening on Saturday, November 15th from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at the Mantua Swim and Tennis Club Clubhouse.

Volunteer in Your Child’s Classroom

These are great opportunities to get to know your teacher better and to spend time in your kiddo’s classroom! A brief description of the current volunteer opportunities is included below.

Can’t commit to one of these jobs? More opportunities will be posted throughout the year for various events and programs. Sign up using the link above, and reach out to volunteering@mantuapta.org with any questions. Volunteers will receive guidance and ideas to get started and support their roles.

• Tuesday Folder Helper: Come to the classroom on a weekly or biweekly basis at a time coordinated with the teacher to stuff Tuesday folders that go home with each student. Since this requires weekly support, this position is typically split between two parents who alternate weeks.
• Party Coordinator: Coordinators get a set date and time from the teacher and coordinate games, crafts, and snacks for the class party, typically soliciting other class parents for supply donations and extra volunteer help on party day.
