Important updates in the cafeteria

I was able to attend the town hall last night regarding the FCHS renovation project.  While it may seem like a long way off, we all will have students making their way through the doors and into adulthood soon enough.  Put if off as long as you can, but in the meantime, here's what you need to know...

First, some basics.  The project is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2026.  The building has grown by 122,00 square feet and increased the student body capacity from about 1900 to 2500.  There are lots of really cool new and updated spaces like the planetarium and Academy space.  I mean, did you know that they have real dental chairs in there for those in the Academy preparing for careers in medicine?  There have also been updates to the special education wing including a gym and changing room.

They are currently finishing up Phase 3 which includes the update of the gym, weight room, and locker rooms.  They are finishing an academic hall that will house English, business and marketing classes as well as the removal of an old hall that will open up the courtyard and allow more natural light.  This will wrap up soon so that while the gym won't be ready in time for basketball tryouts it will be ready for the first game and teachers will move into the academic spaces in December so that all the trailers can be removed and Phase 4 can start in January.

What is Phase 4 you ask?  All the athletic spaces are getting fixed up.  There will be much needed updates to the baseball and softball fields, the stadium announcer's booth, concessions, bathrooms, all of the lighting, and a return of tennis courts!  There's also a multisport practice field that will be in the mix.  The parking situation will go from 369 spots before this started and now 546!  They expect this to be done in Fall 2026 with the stadium being ready for the first game of the football season.

Anyway, if you'd like to do a deeper dive, here are some links to the renovation site and high school page for light reading.  If you'd like to chat about what was the most dramatic topic...look for me this week!
