Survey Work Begins Oct. 10
The Chain Bridge Road shared-use path project is in the early phases of design. The goal of the project is to make biking and walking easier and safer along the west side of Chain Bridge Road between Northfax Street and Assembly Drive. The project will connect to the existing shared-use path south of Northfax Street and to the new shared-use path north of Assembly Drive that is proposed with the Chain Bridge/Eaton Place intersection project.
As part of the design development for this project, the City of Fairfax has contracted with Timmons Group to conduct field survey and data collection. The survey includes:
- Locating property lines/corners, right of way limits, utilities and topographic features.
- Locating and delineating any potential environmental features on the property.
- Assessing and inventorying trees and vegetation.
Timmons Group and/or subconsultants from InfraMap Corporation and Wetland Studies and Solutions will be completing the survey work. The survey field crews will consist of 2-4 personnel and will be on-site between Oct. 10 and Feb. 13, 2026.
Survey work does not necessarily indicate that improvements adjacent to or on your property are imminent. In the event that the project does affect your property, a representative from the project team will contact you.
Every effort will be made to minimize the disturbance to your property and reduce the time spent on your property. No trees, landscaping, buildings, structures, or fences will be disturbed. The primary locations of their work will be along the existing roadways adjacent to your property.
During the course of this work, you are likely to observe field personnel and equipment within the project area. In addition, survey flags, paint, and other markings will be used to identify various property features. For the purposes of tree assessment and inventory, certified arborists and urban forestry professionals will evaluate and tag trees throughout the project area. It is important that the tree tags, survey markings, ribbon, and/or other markings are not removed or disturbed.
Flagging and/or tagging of trees does not indicate removal. Work at this time is limited to survey and inventory efforts. No trees, vegetation, or other property will be damaged by this process. Minor ground disturbance will be restored to pre-existing conditions to the extent practical. At a future date upon completion, survey, environmental, and tree inventory information will be made available for public review on the city website.
