We were city people until about five years ago, when we found ourselves in the midst of three major medical issues. My husband, our twelve-year-old son Holden, and I were all battling different forms of cancer. We decided to move back to my hometown in rural Nebraska to be close to my parents, who would help us with our treatments and the care of our other three children.
Holden adapted immediately. He was drawn to the hard work of a farmer and jumped right in to help his grandpa. He learned all he could and now helps with all aspects of the farm. He has even opened his own sweet corn business and took third place in proficiency at the state FFA convention. He didn’t let his brain cancer slow him down.
