Monday is Diwali, a School Holiday
We wish a fun Diwali to all celebrating! Diwali is a festival of lights and one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs & some Buddhists. The festival represents the symbolic victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil.

Monday, October 20, is a school holiday for Diwali and all schools and offices are closed.

 5th grade STEAM students built roller coasters to demonstrate their knowledge of energy transformation.
 Ms. Speight's 1st graders had class outside to learn about deciduous trees and how their leaves change colors before falling off during the fall. They are also learning about the parts of the tree.
 4th graders from Ms. Lewis's class take a closer look at mineral resources during a science lesson of their Ecosystems Unit.

Early Release Wednesdays
Each elementary school will have a total of eight 3-hour early release days throughout the school year, which is about one per month. Lunch will be provided on early release Wednesdays. The remaining early release Wednesdays for Sangster are:

 Parent Coffee Oct. 28
Sangster is hosting a New Family/Military Coffee for Parents on Tuesday, October 28, 9:30am-10:30 am, in the Sangster Library. Whether you are new to Sangster, or a military family, or just a seasoned Sangster parent wanting to connect to others, you are welcome to attend!
Come enjoy Starbucks coffee and pastries while we get to know one another! This is a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents, ask questions, and learn more about us and our school community.

Book Character Day: Friday, October 31!
 To celebrate our school-wide love of reading, students are encouraged to dress up as a favorite book character on
Friday, October 31st
Students are encouraged to bring a book that includes the character they are representing. During the school day, they may be asked to share more about the character they’ve chosen.
Guidelines for Book Character Costumes
- Characters must be age appropriate and from elementary or middle- grade level books.
- Costumes may not involve blood or other horror-type elements.
- No weapons of any kind or masks that cover the entire face.
- Costumes must allow students to take care of personal needs, sit at desks, and participate in school and classroom activities throughout the day, including appropriate shoes for PE/ recess!!

 LB Choir Fundraiser Oct. 23
The Lake Braddock Choir is hosting its annual fundraiser concert “Dessert on Broadway” on Thursday, October 23. The concert will be full of Broadway songs and the tickets include a dessert. There will also be a raffle and silent auction. For information, visit lbchorus.org
 A Midsummer Night's Dream at Lake Braddock October 30-November 1
Looking for something fun and family-friendly to do with you and your family? Look no further than Lake Braddock Theatre's fall production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream! Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night’s Dream follows the love story of four confused Athenians, a wacky bunch of actors preparing their play for the upcoming royal wedding, and a forest full of magical fairies who tend to disrupt the natural order of the human world.
This show is set around a PG-rating and will perform on October 30, 31 and November 1!
Those who attend on October 31 (Halloween) will be able to get a photo with their favorite cast members! Costumes are encouraged. Tickets can be purchased at lbtheatre.com. We hope to see you there!
