NEW! Cart Size Options Now Available

Good news, Fairfax City! The standardized trash and recycling carts will now be delivered to all single-family homes in January. These durable, easy-to-roll carts with attached lids will help keep your recyclables clean, reduce pests, and make collection safer and more efficient for everyone.

Residents now have the option to select the size of their carts that fits best for their household. By default, every household will receive one standard 64-gallon recycling cart, and one 64-gallon trash cart. (As shown in picture to the right). If you prefer the smaller 32-gallon cart for trash, recycling, or both, you must request it in advance. Submit your form below or go to www.fairfaxva.gov/carts to submit your cart size request before November 3.

Curious which cart size is right for your household? Join us on Wednesday, October 22, 6:30–7:30 p.m. at Sherwood Community Center (3740 Blenheim Blvd) for the Trash & Recycling Cart Open House. You’ll be able to see and test both the 32-gallon and 64-gallon carts, chat with city staff, and get help choosing and requesting the size that best fits your needs

Why the Switch to Carts?

The City of Fairfax is moving to a standardized cart system to make trash and recycling collection cleaner, safer, and more efficient!

• Spacious - more room for recyclables means higher recycling rate
• Cleaner environment - lids prevent litter from being blown into our neighborhoods and polluting our local streams, parks, and natural areas
• Increased safety - rolling carts and mechanical lifts protect our workforce from additional strain and injury
