What do governments have to show for 50 years of the war on drugs? Global production and consumption of cocaine are at record highs. Donald Trump is intensifying the fight by bombing alleged Venezuelan smuggling-boats in the Caribbean. But in recent years the business has evolved rapidly, and the
traffickers have the upper hand.
The same cannot be said of another of Mr Trump’s sworn enemies, his former national security adviser, John Bolton. Yesterday prosecutors charged Mr Bolton with
mishandling classified information
while he was in office. Mr Bolton says he is not guilty. Unlike some of Mr Trump’s recent personal vendettas, the evidence in this case looks strong, and the potential punishment is stiff. |
