Message from Mrs. Burke

Hello Edison Families,

What a week it has been at Edison. Homecoming spirit has filled our halls, and seeing our students and staff come together to celebrate has been a joy. The energy has been incredible from themed outfits and decorated hallways to the spirited junior vs. senior flag football game and plenty of laughter at Follies. Our band and cheerleaders brought that excitement right into the hallways today with their game day march, setting the perfect tone for tonight.

Homecoming Football Game at 7:00 PM
We face Falls Church this evening for our homecoming football game. A few reminders for entry:

  • All Edison students in grades 9 through 12 must show their school ID or StudentVUE on their phone to be admitted.

  • Elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who stays for the entire game.

Our JROTC cadets will march in review for their instructor, and we will crown our homecoming royalty at halftime. It promises to be a great night.

Homecoming Dance Tomorrow Night
The dance is Saturday, and doors open at 8:00 PM.
Buy your homecoming tickets here!

  • No tickets will be sold at the door.

  • Students must arrive by 9:30 PM. No one will be admitted after that time. Please plan accordingly.

Thank You
Thank you to Don Dight and Cari Craft, our leadership teachers, and their students for planning a week full of memorable events. Thank you to our PTSA for hosting a much-appreciated teacher appreciation breakfast during this busy week. Your support means a lot to our staff.

Highlights
This week, we honored our seniors at cross country’s senior night on Wednesday at Burke Lake and last night’s girls' volleyball match. We are proud of these student-athletes and excited to see what is ahead for them.

Our cheer team competed in the first round of district cheer on Tuesday night, and we look forward to cheering them on in the finals at Hayfield next week.

We also had our first girls' flag football game on Tuesday, and it was fantastic to see them out on the field making some impressive plays. Thank you to Coach Cook and Coach Weber for getting this new team up and running.

Looking Ahead
Monday is a student holiday in observance of Diwali and we have two weeks left in the quarter. This is a good time to make sure assignments, retakes, and any outstanding work are up to date.

Thank you for being such an engaged and supportive community. I hope to see many of you at the game tonight and at the dance tomorrow.

Have a great weekend!

Amanda Burke

Parent/Guardian Permission for Student to Regularly Miss Instruction Time

Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to fostering a caring culture where each and every student can thrive in a learning environment where they feel welcome and a sense of belonging.

In alignment with FCPS Regulation 1502,  Schools ensure that students and staff of all religious backgrounds have reasonable accommodation and access to meditation and silent reflection space within the school building.

FCPS supports students who need to take time during the school day to practice as their faith requires. If your student needs to be excused from a portion of at least one class to meditate and pray, please complete the form linked below.  This means that your student would regularly miss instructional time. By doing so, your student will be responsible for all work that needs to be completed or made up.

School students can access our designated space during the instructional time with parent/guardian authorization. By completing this form, you are acknowledging that you understand your student may be missing daily instruction time.

New IB CP Coordinator Named

Important Staff Announcement: New IB CP Coordinator Named

We are thrilled to announce that Corinne Nuttall will be stepping into the role of Career-related Programme (CP) Coordinator for the Edison school community. This is in addition to the fantastic job she is already doing as our IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) Coordinator! Corinne's experience and dedication to the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy make her an excellent choice to lead the CP, which provides a framework for career-related education. Please join us in congratulating Corinne on her new role!

Please note that Sabra Devers will be continuing her work as the interim CP Coordinator during the school's crucial candidacy and authorization process.

One of our art teachers, Rachel Wallace, represented Edison at the FCPS Artist Teacher Exhibition: “Color Stories.” The painting, entitled “The Wilderness and the Womb,” is an exploration of huntress goddess motifs in different cultures. The exhibition is on view at the Lorton Workhouse Arts Center until December 6th.

FCPS Youth Survey to 10th and 12th grade students

Edison High School will be administering the FCPS Youth Survey to 10th and 12th grade students on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, during an extended Advisory period. If you would like for your 10th or 12th grade student to be opted out, please see the below website, and click on the section for Parent Opt-Out Letters. Select the letter for grades 8, 10, and 12, and send the printed and signed form in to your student's counselor by Friday, Nov. 7, 2025.
