Attendance Spirit Week!

2

Good afternoon, Lorton Station families!

This was a wonderful Spirit Week full of great smiles and fantastic attendance. Students who attend school over 90% of the year are more likely to be at or above grade level in math and reading. Whether students miss school due to illness or any other reason, missing school can lead to learning loss. Help your student succeed by encouraging them to miss as few days as possible. However, please ensure your student stays home if they are sick. So when should your child stay home? Visit the FCPS website for helpful information regarding absences and guidance on working with your child and our school.

If your child has a chronic illness, please notify our school and your child’s teacher so that assistance can be provided if needed. Please keep an open line of communication with our public health nurse. Call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent and inform the school staff of the reason and duration.

Quick highlights:

  • No School Monday (Diwali)
  • Trunk or Treat Friday
  • Children's Science Night Upcoming

Helpful reminders:

  • Attendance is crucial to your child's successful academic progress. A child who misses 10% or more of the school year is more likely to be one or more grade levels below their peers in reading and math.
  • Math homework is a practice tool for students to reinforce current content. If your child is struggling with their math homework, please get in touch with your teacher for support.
  • Twenty minutes of reading a night can improve your child's reading ability by more than a grade level by the end of the school year.

From your administration

Dr. Legagneur, Mr. Barton, and Ms. Champion
