Diwali

Diwali (Monday, October 20) - NO SCHOOL

We wish a happy Diwali to all celebrating! Diwali is a festival of lights and one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs & some Buddhists. The festival represents the symbolic victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. #OurFCPS

As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, October 20 in observance of Diwali. We look forward to seeing our Roadrunners on Tuesday, October 21!

Attention FCPS Families! The Federal Impact Aid Survey is now available to complete online.

The Federal Impact Aid program provides money to districts that enroll federally connected students. Help FCPS secure funding from the Impact Aid Program by helping us identify:

  • Military families.
  • Federally connected families.
  • Families living on a military base.

Beginning October 21, 2025:

Please complete one form for each child in your household. Remember that only the parent that registered the student with FCPS (the ‘enrolling parent’) can fill out the Impact Aid Survey form.

For families without access to ParentVUE, a paper copy of the form will be sent home with your student starting November 12. Your information will be kept strictly confidential.

Your support will ensure that we receive the resources for which we are eligible.

Step 1: CLICK HERE to be taken to SIS ParentVUE. If you don’t have a SIS ParentVUE account, contact your child’s school for an activation letter. It is recommended that you use Google Chrome.

Step 2: After you’ve logged into your ParentVUE Account, look for the ‘Online Packets’ link at the top of the page. Click ‘Online Packets’.

Step 3: Next, click the ‘Federal Impact Aid Survey’ button on the bottom of the page. This will take you to the Impact Aid Survey for you to complete.

If you have multiple children in Fairfax County Public Schools, please fill out a form for each child. You will know you have completed all the forms when you get to the final page and see a green check next to each of their names.

BookClub

"The Anxious Generation" Book Club - October 21

Last Tuesday, the book club had a lively discussion about Jonathan Haidt’s book “The Anxious Generation.” We invite all parents who are interested in this topic to join us for our next session on October 21st, as we welcome co-founders of DMV Unplugged.

We recognize that technological advances have changed all our lives in many incredible ways and have also created an uncertain and challenging time to be a parent. The current norms of children and technology run in opposition to what is necessary for healthy cognitive, social, and emotional development. With backgrounds in healthcare, education, and digital wellness, Keena McAvoy and Liza Schalch are co-founders of the non-profit DMV Unplugged. Their organization's mission is to educate families and schools about how the use of technology products has the potential to interfere with the wellness of our children and how, together, we can change tech use norms to prioritize the most important parts of childhood.

Come join us on October 21st from 6:00 – 7:00pm in the Little Run library. Please RSVP to Karen Spradlin, School Social Worker at kdspradlin@fcps.edu

Digital Citizenship Spirit Week - October 21-24

Digital Citizenship Spirit Week

Accessing Family Life Education Materials (FLE)

4th-6th grade classes will be participating in Family Life Education (FLE) lessons beginning in December. (Be on the look out for communication from teachers regarding this in the coming weeks).

For your convenience, the lessons and materials are available for families to view at your own pace on the All Parents/Guardians: Little Run Elementary School Schoology Course. Detailed instructions on how to access these materials can be found liked here.

Additionally, the Woodson Pyramid will be hosting a Parent Preview Night for FLE on Thursday, October 23 from 5:30-6:00PM. This event provides an opportunity to ask questions and receive assistance in accessing the materials virtually.

Join us using this link: https://myfcpsk12.zoom.us/j/97789633711

We invite you also to learn more about Fairfax County's elementary FLE program on the FCPS website.

Please reach out to Alison Butler (ajbutler@fcps.edu) with any questions.

Family Coffee: Raising Healthy Kids in a Digital World - October 24

Date: October 24 | Time: 8:30 AM | Location: Library

Technology has changed rapidly in our lifetime, and raising kids in today's online world presents unique challenges. How do we help our children navigate screen time, social media pressure, and online safety while still maximizing the benefits of connection and learning?

Join us as we wrap up SCA Digital Digital Citizenship Week for a practical discussion on setting healthy boundaries and fostering responsible digital citizenship at home. Let's work together to help our children thrive both online and off.
