If crypto investor Ross Calvin gets his way, the US West Coast could soon see a statue of the Prometheus rise 450 feet from Alcatraz island in the Bay Area — just tall enough for his head to poke above the Golden Gate Bridge. Meanwhile a startup in Austin, Texas, is attracting backers to build a 650-foot statue of George Washington, whose location is to be determined. Calvin and More Monuments founder Mo Mahmood represent a new class of monuments men. Made up largely of investors from America’s right-leaning tech universe, they’re hoping to realize their larger-than-life visions of Western supremacy with the help of another aspiring builder — who’s also the country’s most powerful figure: President Donald Trump.
