Nurse staffing agency, owner indicted on fraud charges
A grand jury in Massachusetts indicted Blooming Staffing Agency owner Catherine Kibe, former employee Osaretin Osazee and the company for allegedly staffing nursing homes with uncertified workers and fraudulently billing facilities for services. The indictments include charges of larceny by false pretenses and identity fraud. The Massachusetts Attorney General's Office alleges that Kibe sent uncertified workers, including Osazee, to work as certified nursing assistants, then billed nursing homes as if they were CNAs.

DOJ drops fraud charges against former CUNY neuroscientist
The Department of Justice has dropped a fraud case against former City University of New York neuroscientist Hoau-Yan Wang, who had been accused of defrauding the NIH of $16 million in grants for Alzheimer's disease research. The decision followed a letter from CUNY to the Office of Research Integrity stating that Wang had not engaged in scientific misconduct, despite evidence of image manipulation in his research articles.

Housing services provider pleads guilty in Minn. Medicaid fraud case
Anwar Ahmed Adow, owner of Liberty Plus, pleaded guilty to wire fraud for filing inflated, fraudulent claims for housing services. Liberty Plus received $1.2 million in Minnesota Medicaid funds for services provided to about 200 people. Adow allegedly told his employees to "bill as much as they could," and did not review billable hours employees reported, according to the charges.
