Pulmonary hypertension is often underdiagnosed and can present as unexplained shortness of breath, writes Dr. Neena Chandrasekaran. An echocardiogram may reveal right ventricular systolic pressure greater than 40 mm Hg, indicating increased workload on the right ventricle.

Microbubble-enhanced transcranial focused ultrasound has been used in more than 800 sessions involving 300 patients to open the blood-brain barrier, according to a study in the journal Device. The research established standardized parameters to ensure safe and effective use of the technology, which could lead to noninvasive treatments and liquid biopsies.

Around 29% of US hospitals provide patient portals only in English, 60% offer access in English and Spanish and 11% offer access in three or more languages, according to a study in JAMA Network Open. Teaching hospitals are more likely to offer multilingual portals than other hospitals.

Study links social, environmental factors to cancer screening rates
A study in JAMA Network Open found that poverty, environmental risks and housing issues were factors affecting cancer screening rates. Using machine learning to analyze Medicare data, researchers found that smoking rates were a primary factor for lung and colorectal cancer, while race was significant for breast and prostate cancers.

Court overturns rule providing transgender health care protections
US District Judge Louis Guirola Jr. struck down a rule from the Biden administration that extended antidiscrimination protections to transgender individuals in health care. The ruling said HHS exceeded its authority by redefining sex discrimination to include gender identity.
