Federal Workforce Resource Hub
Health and Human Services agencies can connect you to county and community-based resources to help meet basic needs, including food, utility and rent assistance.
- Residents in need can contact the Coordinated Services Planning hotline at 703-222-0880 (TTY 711) for assistance in connecting to county- and community-based resources. This service is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Multilingual specialists can assist callers in multiple foreign languages.
- Our Department of Family Services - Public Assistance and Employment Services can help eligible residents enroll in programs such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Medicaid. To apply for benefits online or by phone, visit CommonHelp or call 855-635-4370.
- The State Women, Infants, and Children program aims to improve the health of pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children under five years of age. For all WIC appointments and questions, call 703-246-5599.
- The Human Services Resource Guide connects residents with thousands of nonprofit and government services. Listings include detailed service descriptions, eligibility requirements, locations (maps and directions) and contact information.
- Families enrolled in the School Age Child Care (SACC) or Beyond the Bell Pilot program who are unable to make payments should reach out to staff to discuss options. Call 703-449-8989, TTY 711, or email saccregistration@fairfaxcounty.gov.
- Families in the Child Care Assistance Referral program who are having difficulty making payments should reach out to CCAR staff at 703-449-8484 or email CCARInfo@fairfaxcounty.gov to explore resources and support available.
Pets – Residents in need of pet food or other pet resources can visit the Animal Shelter’s Pet Resource Center for a comprehensive list of resources and support.
Tax Payments – Any taxpayers who are unable to pay their county taxes will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Call 703-222-8234 (English and Español), TTY 711, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Washington Gas - The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, provides grants to help families pay for their gas bills. The program application is now open through the Department of Energy and Environment.
Virginia - Federal employees and contractors can’t be evicted or foreclosed on during a federal government shutdown, under state law.
Food Assistance
Capital Area Food Bank is committed to providing food for our neighbors in need, throughout the year and in unexpected moments of economic hardship.

To support federal employees and contractors affected by the government shutdown, the food bank is holding additional food distributions at locations throughout its partner network. These new food distributions will offer boxes of shelf-stable pantry items and fresh produce for the duration of the shutdown.

These new food distributions will begin the week of October 20th. To receive food, visitors will need to show a government work ID.

Residents in need can use the Emergency Food Access Providers map to locate available food resources.

Credit Unions and Relief:

Navy Federal Credit Union is offering eligible members that may be impacted by paycheck disruptions during the shutdown maximum $6,000 loans based on how much the last eligible direct deposit was.

PenFed Credit Union is offering paycheck protection loans, payment skips and assistance for home loans.

USAA is helping members with 0% interest loans up to $6,000, and special payment arrangements for auto and property insurance premiums as well as life and health insurance.

First Command is offering a 0% annual percentage rate pay advance loan with no fees or interest charges.
Fort Belvoir ACS Food Pantry
Fort Belvoir’s Army Community Service (ACS) supports the military-community by providing a variety of programs to help our military connected families thrive.
The ACS Food Pantry is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and available to all military-connected individuals, including retirees, with current military IDs. Please note that a military ID must be presented to access this service. The Army Community Service is in Building #1263, 5963 6th Street, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060.
