The Gulf Ecosystem Initiative’s fourth Call for Proposals for synthesis science projects in the Gulf of America and post-doctoral researchers is now open.
Proposals are due February 20, 2026.
The Gulf Ecosystem Initiative is a $3.5 million partnership between the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) and the NOAA RESTORE Science Program to fund synthesis science and postdoctoral research.
The objectives of the Gulf Ecosystem Initiative are to use synthesis to improve the integrated understanding and management of the Gulf of America ecosystem, and to build capacity for future synthesis, including workforce development and promoting use of open source data.
The Gulf Ecosystem Initiative’s Call for Proposals asks project teams to propose pressing scientific and societal challenges focused around three themes in the Gulf of America: climate change, fisheries, and the ecological impact of management actions.
In a separate process, NCEAS is searching for one post-doctoral scholar to collaborate with the synthesis working groups and to conduct independent research in the applicant’s area of interest. Here is the job announcement and visit this site to learn more about working at NCEAS.
NCEAS will host an informational webinar on these opportunities on Nov. 5, 2025 at 1 pm ET (12 pm CT). Register here.
