Welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Big To-Do: Short Cuts, our midweek round-up of what’s going on around Boston, as selected by Boston Globe critics and writers.

Thursday

  • Head back to Oz as the highly-anticipated sequel “Wicked: For Good” flies into theaters, just in time for the holiday season.

  • Former “Cheers” star Ted Danson is back with season 2 of “A Man on the Inside,” streaming on Netflix.

Friday

  • George Clooney and Adam Sandler team up for the director Noah Baumbach’s new film “Jay Kelly,” opening in theaters.

  • New Hampshire’s Megan From Work joins Class President for a show at Somerville’s Warehouse XI.

  • World-famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma returns to Symphony Hall for a sold-out performance, which will stream live at the Boston Public Library in Copley Square and more venues around town.

Saturday

  • Milli Vanilli’s Fab Morvan performs at Venus de Milo in Swansea.

  • Faneuil Hall’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony takes over Quincy Market, with six live performances hitting the stage.

  • Drag artists Jinkx Monsoon and BenDeLaCreme bring the holiday fun to the Boch Center Wang Theatre.




Sunday

  • Author Matt Tavares reads his new picture book “Dasher and the Polar Bear“ at Brookline Booksmith.

  • Boston Philharmonic and founding conductor Benjamin Zander team up with ensemble Chorus Pro Musica for a performance at Symphony Hall.

Ongoing

  • “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” continues its stay at Emerson Colonial Theatre through Dec. 20.

  • The exhibition “Tourmaline: The Lives of a Pollinator” runs through Dec. 21 at Harvard’s Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts.

Last Chance

  • “Tick, Tick … Boom!" ends its run at the Umbrella Arts Center in Concord on Sunday.
