What's Next for NYC: Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani's Agenda
The Jan. 1 inauguration of New York City’s mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani will usher in a new era of politics and public policy for the city, the state and beyond.
Mamdani, a democratic socialist who shocked the political world with his wins in the June Democratic primary and November’s general election, has an ambitious agenda — free child care, free bus fares and revamping the city’s public safety apparatus. But it will require a considerable cash outlay and is largely dependent on Albany. President Donald Trump, who had a surprisingly cordial meeting with Mamdani in the White House, has nevertheless threatened to send the National Guard to the city and cut federal aid in response to his victory.
