Message from the Commander
Fair Oaks Community,
As I begin my assignment as the new commander of the Fair Oaks District Station, I want to express how honored I am to join this dedicated team of police officers, detectives, professional staff, volunteers, and community partners. I am grateful for the warm welcome I have already received thus far, and I look forward to working closely with each of you as we continue our shared mission of reducing crime and ensuring safety and maintaining trust and a high quality of life for all who live, work, and visit our district.
I bring to this role more than twenty years of service with the Fairfax County Police Department, spanning operational, investigative, and administrative duties. My previous command assignments have included the Criminal Justice Academy, the Franconia District Station, the Criminal Investigations Division, and most recently the Resource Management Bureau, where I served as the Director of Facilities and Security. These experiences have provided me with a comprehensive and wide-ranging perspective on policing, from developing officers in a training environment, to supporting complex investigations, providing patrol level support and oversight, and managing large scale projects. I look forward to applying these skills in support of our personnel and the community we serve here at Fair Oaks.
I am committed to maintaining a high level of service and being responsive to the public, strengthening community engagement, and continuing the downward trend in crime. Working together through open communication and transparency, we will continue to maintain the progress already achieved. As we begin 2026, I encourage all of us to reaffirm our commitment to keeping the Fair Oaks District a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
Crime prevention remains one of the most effective tools we have in ensuring community safety. I encourage residents and businesses to take a few simple steps that can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim and to further reduce crime. To help prevent burglaries, secure all doors and windows, use exterior lighting, and consider investing in security cameras. Be aware of your surroundings, trust your instincts, and report suspicious activity promptly to prevent becoming a victim of a robbery. Theft from motor vehicles continues to be a crime of opportunity, so please remember to lock your cars, remove valuables, and park in well-lit areas whenever possible. Additionally, traffic safety is an integral part of policing to keep our community safe. Please follow all posted speed limits, avoid distracted driving, and remain attentive to pedestrians, cyclists, and changing roadway conditions. More broadly, staying aware of your surroundings, maintaining good communication with neighbors, and promptly reporting suspicious activity all contribute to greater community safety. You will see more detailed crime prevention guidance and safety tips from our station throughout the year as we work to keep our district secure.
I am excited for the year ahead and deeply committed to serving this community with professionalism and integrity. Together, we will continue to make the Fair Oaks District a safe community.
Respectfully,
Major Wahid Alam Commander, Fair Oaks District Station Fairfax County Police Department
