Does lifting weights actually help you lose fat?

The short answer is yes, but not how you think.

Lifting weights doesn't burn a ton of calories.

So it won't make a huge difference on your bodyweight.

Let your diet do the hard work there.

That's a huge mistake I made when I lost 50 lb the first time.

I just looked sickly at the end of it. Not ripped.

If you saw today's video (Why You Look Scrawny When You Lose Weight) you know the hammer and the nail analogy.

But training to build muscle while you lose weight does 3 awesome things:

1. It makes it so more of every pound you lose comes from fat, not muscle.

2. It builds more muscle on the way down, so you look better at the end.

3. It teaches you how to be patient and consistent (key for losing fat).

I overheard some guy at the gym say that he's focusing on losing fat for now.

Just cardio. Then he'll build up the muscle after the spring.

Best of luck with that my friend.

You'll wish you started sooner.

I hope this helps.
